It is nothing if not obvious that the Flyers’ 5-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils was inspired solely by the sign seen on this car in the Wachovia Center parking lot.
Does anyone know if Peter Laviolette drives a gold Mitsubishi Galant?
In breaking a five-game losing streak, the Flyers rebounded from a tough loss in Pittsburgh to stave off a few more days of stories regarding their lack of character and ability to overcome adversity.
The Flyers got goals from three defensemen (Matt Carle, Kimmo Timonen and Lukas Krajicek), but more importantly, helped Brian Boucher hold the Devils to one goal. Did that have anything to do with Ryan Parent sitting next to Jeff Carter and James van Riemsdyk in the press box? You betcha.
For the third straight game, the Danny Briere line with Simon Gagne and Ville Leino was very effective. Both Gagne and Leino scored and had an assist, while Briere grabbed two assists.
Given the 4-0 score heading into the third, it was no surprise to see the latest edition of adventures in Flyers-based officiating. Shortly after Arron Asham fought Pierre-Luc LeBlond, Dan Carcillo and David Clarkson engaged in some pre-fight foreplay before being separated. Carcillo received a match penalty among rumors of head-butting, but we’ll likely never know unless Carbomb is suspended.
For the season, the Flyers finished 5-1 against the Devils, completing a bizarre one-sided triangle among the top three teams in the Atlantic Division. While the Flyers can’t beat the Penguins (1-4-1), the Penguins cannot beat the Devils, losing all six games to New Jersey this season.
The Flyers are off until Thursday, a break they surely need. For now, the talk of late-season collapses have faded until the next loss—or if they can manage to stave off a collapse.

Joe, This made me laugh out loud. The only thing better would have been if the car was painted orange like those free T-shirts the team gives out. Maybe Laviolette will give out orange shorts to the team with this guy’s message at the next practice following a bad loss.
